A couple of weeks ago, on Easter Monday, we hiked to Kelly and David Lam Falls on the Blackwater Creek Trail. We were joined by my sisters son Oscker and one our best friends, Kevin. We headed into the woods just after lunch for a little adventure. I always worry when we try a new hike. To put it mildly, I'm out of shape, so I was happy for easy steady climbing instead of crazy intimidating rough terrain with lots of steep areas. From what I'd read online and heard from others, I knew the hike was pretty tame and kid friendly and fortunately the info I received was correct. The paths were wide and well marked. The woods are so lush and green right now. We walked happily with the sounds of birds chirping all around us for roughly 25 minutes before we reached Kelly Falls. So beautiful! Of course, Jackson had to climb down the side of the cliff to get his feet wet. He didn't last long as apparently the water was icy cold - shocking as it was only the end of March! Ha! After a snack break we continued on to David Lam Falls. More stunning beauty! The drive to the mouth of this hike was 15 minutes from our home. Powell River is covered in beautiful trails, lakes aplenty and of course the Pacific is minutes from pretty much anywhere. I've said it before, but I often pinch myself wondering how I got so lucky to live where I do and be able to enjoy nature so easily any day, anytime.
The best instructions for how to get to the Falls can be found here.
