"a portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2018"
Jackson: He really is an active guy but he also LOVES his phone, computer and his Playstation a little too much in my eyes. I hate all the screen time but he does get up voluntarily to play hockey at 5am every Tuesday then plays at least 3 or 4 more times per week as well as reffing. Plus PE in school and the occasional basketball game with buddies, it's not as though he is sitting around all the time on a device. Finding the right balance is hard. I wish he read more however that does not seem to interest him one bit these days. Hopefully he will jump back into a good book one day. I don't know what the right answer is but I do know from talking to other parents that he is just like his peers. We take everything away at night but it often is with a little argument. It's a different world we are living in now. It's tough.
Lily: There are books all over the house full of stories or thoughts or pictures. It used to be papers everywhere but we got smart and started buying her blank books to fill up. She's very much like her Dad. Her mind is always buzzing with ideas.
Oh her room is so beautiful and to be honest, compared to teenagers here it sounds like Jackson has a good balance. Teenagers here don't often play sport - it's usually just teams that play regularly and if you're not on a team there isn't much point in playing. Not my thoughts but how the teens in question feel. And so because they're not active they are very much into screens instead. It's sad! x
