Jackson: His devotion to hockey will forever amaze me. Morning,mid-day or in the evening, he's always up for a game!

Lily: Excited to give swimming lessons another go. We've taken a year off to see if she is a little less fearful and so far so good.

He is 10 with "hockey hair" looking pretty handsome.

Jackson: Off he goes again, on his own, across the water on the ferry overnight to Victoria to play hockey. I took this photo after our last hug right after he boarded the bus with his team. I'm not ready for him to be this old already! It makes my heart ache like nothing else.

 

Lily: I hope she will be keen to wear bows in her hair for many years to come.

Jackson: Very restless and very sensitive these last few days. I think growing pains.

Hopefully this coming week will be an easier one.

Lily: Often the first words from her mouth in the morning are "I just had a dream or a think".

Jackson: He had his first "sleep away" on the Island with his hockey team

this past weekend and all went well!

Lily: This week she is writing plays and comics and producing some of her best art yet.

Jackson: He's now 10!!! At the Vancouver Canucks home opener watching the pre-game show at ice level with his dad. The tickets to the game were his birthday present this year! Lucky but grateful kid!

Jackson: September 29, sleeping his way to 10. My sweet sensitive little big man is into the double digits. I am filled with disbelief. How I wish I could make time stop or at least slow down. I'm full of pride for the amazing young boy he is and love him beyond words.

 

Lily: A new ballerina! She told me the other day that she really hopes she gets married when she is older, 26 or so. She hopes to have a winter wedding and wants a beautiful white dress that goes in at the waist and has a huge flowy skirt with lace at the bottom. She will wear a nice coat or beautiful sweater to keep her warm. She wants to be married in the snow surrounded by trees with a huge bon fire near. She says she will make sure all the guests have gloves to put on so they will be warm too. I hope the future bring thislovely dream to reality for my sweet girl and that I will be there to see it.

Jackson: Feeling much better! He is growing his hair out for hockey. His hair has always been very short so this should be interesting.

Lily: Wonders this week if her fish ever dies, could she have a venus fly trap?!

37/52 a portrait a week

Jackson: It's been a rough week for my poor guy. He has been out of school since Monday with a lymph node infection which began with a couple of bad scrapes on his right foot! Who knew!?! We took him into emerg on Tuesday morning when he woke up puking with a swollen foot and a fever. Turns out those couple scrapes turned ugly and attacked his lymph nodes once again. Unfortunately this has meant 10 days of heavy antibiotics, no hockey or much of anything which is extremely hard on this guy. Jackson isn't one for sitting around. He's missing his first two games of the hockey season but he knows it's best to heal and be 100% before heading back on the ice. He also had to miss the Terry Fox Run. Tough stuff but he is on the mend now (as you can see in the photo) and we are grateful!

 

Lily: This girl keeps surprising us. This week she attempted the climbing wall at school and had her first ever soccer practise and game! On Monday she will start ballet! This once very anxious scared little woman is really starting to come out of her shell. Yay Flower!

36/52 a portrait a week - back to school

Jackson: first day of Grade 5

Lily: first day of Grade 3

Another school year has begun but life doesn't seem to be slowing down at all with the welcomed routines school usually brings. Once again, my portrait post is late and I haven't had a look at last weeks entries to pick my favourites! The kids both got wonderful teachers and seem to be settling in well to their new classes. I still can't believe grades 5 & 3! Where does time go!?!?!

With the start of a new school year we are also beginning our other regular activities like hockey, cheer, crochet and  soccer - I suppose this easily explains why things aren't slowing down.  Jack and Lily chose these things and we are always happy to give them opportunities but man it means we are busy!!  Lily is actually trying to convince me to throw dance and swimming lessons into the mix somewhere too. She is shocking us this year with her desire to do so much. Last year she was a very different kid. I'm so glad she is more confident and comfortable.

Proud to go to the same elementary school as their Dad.

 

Jackson got Mr. Aasen this year for grade 5. He's much sought after by kids so Jack

is pretty happy to be in his classroom. It a big class of 27.

 Lily in Mrs. Andrews class. There are 14 girls and 7 boys in the classroom.
It should be an interesting year!!! ☺

We bargained shopped at the outlet mall for most of their clothes this year. Yes I did buy a few extras (I have a problem with them and clothing) but not like I have before. For supplies, Staples had some great sales on plus I had lots of leftovers from last years stuff. All in all, we did better this year then we ever have before. Hopefully the start of a new trend!
