Sunday Hike to the Stillwater Bluffs

For our Sunday hike this week, we ventured south of town to the gorgeous Stillwater Bluffs. The weather was a bit questionable but off we went. Round trip with lots of stops for photos and food breaks, we were there probably 3 1/2 hours. Oscker, who is only 5, joined us today and managed without a problem. There is so much to see at the Bluffs. The area feels magical.  Amazing trees of all kinds (douglas fir, cedar and tons of arbutus) are everywhere. Of course we especially LOVED the big, perfect for climbing, old tree which sits on the cliff next to the ocean. That tree was the biggest reason I wanted to do this hike. There are wildflowers blooming all over and the moss in places was as white as snow. I even found a patch of wild strawberries flowering. Off in the distance we could hear seals barking and later found them with the optical zoom on the camera. I would recommend this hike to anyone. It's easy and such a beautiful destination.

Lily was thrilled with the last part of the walk on the road back to the car. There is little to no traffic so she did cartwheel after cartwheel on the yellow line. Such a rebel!
